Tate Britain

Client:   Mace Ltd              Contract Value:   Circa £130,000

The most significant development undertaken since the building first opened in 1897, the Tate Britain Centenary Project was conceived to complete the gallery, increase display space by 35 percent and enable the introduction of a more extensive programme of exhibitions. The scope of works included the demolition of four galleries, the construction of six new galleries and a new public entrance, as well as tunnelling and external landscaping, highly sensitive works with the necessity of keeping the gallery open to the public throughout. Johns of Nottingham brought their wealth of experience in this field to the carefully assembled team led by Mace to once again produce a stunning finish with paints from ICI Dulux and Farrow & Ball to both the galleries displaying priceless pieces, and public areas welcoming almost 2 million visitors a year.
